In Support of Breaking Down Barriers
Hurry Hard, to get your team registered for this exciting inclusive event!
The 13th Annual Rockin’ the House Bonspiel will be held on Saturday March 23rd, 2019 at the Collingwood Curling Club located at 250 Hume Street.
This tournament has grown as a fundraiser for Breaking Down Barriers every year and assists us to continue to provide much needed services to people of all abilities in the communities of South Georgian Bay. Last year’s event was a huge success raising a gross total of $19,111.95. These funds were raised from a combination of registration fees, silent auction sales, and 50/50 draw proceeds, pledges raised by the participants and cash sponsorship of the event. We could not do this without the support and generosity of businesses, media and individuals in our community.
Over the years, we have been lucky to have local sponsors that contribute to make the day the best that it can be, and we are always happy to add to our partnerships. If you would like to take on the role of a Title Sponsor, Lead Sponsor, Ice Sheet Sponsor, Donor of food or provide an item for the Silent Auction please let us know. Click the link at the bottom of the page to see the benefits of sponsorship.
As an added bonus to those who don't curl, but who would like to take part in some way, the silent auction is always a unique mixture of fun and useful items. This year the items will be available for view on a special Facebook page the link for which will appear here soon, and will be updated regularly!
Of course no event can happen without the participation of volunteers, so if you are looking for a unique volunteering experience in a fun and active environment, this is the event for you! Please contact the office for details.
By supporting this event you make it possible for us to continue to maintain our services to people with disabilities. Look forward to seeing you there.
Marie Banks Memorial Award
Marie Banks was one of Breaking Down Barriers best known Volunteers and consumer for over 10 year’s. She was an avid sports enthusiast and loved to fundraise in order to purse the activities she loved. At the time of her death in 2009 she was on the BDB Board of Directors and fundraising committee and was committed to promoting the organization in the community. Her abilities as a fundraiser were numerous and she gave her all to a good cause.
Breaking Down Barriers decided to honour Marie's memory by creating an award to be presented at our annual curling bonspiel that highlighted one of her great joys - fundraising. The Marie Banks Memorial Award is intended to thank participants for their efforts to raise pledges for the event and to encourage participants to follow in her footsteps and give their all to causes they support no matter their abilities. There is a plaque hung on the wall in the office with Marie's photo and, the names of the winners of this award and we look forward to presenting a trophy to this years top individual and top team fundraiser.
Come out and Rock the House for a great cause!
