Breaking Down Barriers - Privacy Policy

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care of the Privacy Commissioner stipulate that all Community Support Services (CSS) Agencies must be in compliance with Provincial Privacy Legislation. The Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), which came into effect on November 1, 2004. For this reason Breaking Down Barriers (BDB) has developed a Privacy Policy.
·        BDB is committed to protecting your privacy while you are browsing for     information on our website.
·        The term “Privacy” includes the confidentiality and security of information
·        We are committed to handling all your personal information as governed by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
·        The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care also ensures that your personal health information is private, confidential and secure through the Personal Health Information Protection Act.
·        When you visit our website, we will not collect your personal information unless you choose to contact us through our website.
·        For transactions with Breaking Down Barriers involving credit cards, BDB exercises up-to-date security protocols to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of information and systems.
·        Accountability for BDB compliance with privacy rests with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors of Breaking Down Barriers.


As a non-profit organization, Breaking Down Barriers is required to provide statistical information to our funders. To do this, we use website feedback and statistics to ensure that our website is usable, accessible and up to date.

In order to process transactions such as:

·        Membership Fees

·        Registration Fees

Your information, whether public or private, will not be sold or shared or given to any other agencies/businesses without your consent.

·        If you contact our staff via our website, staff may contact you in order to send you information pertaining to your inquiry. In addition staff may add you to a list receiving the monthly calendar, newsletter, invitations or service related information.
