— Breaking down barriers opened its doors on February 25, 1985.
— BDB is driven by the core principles of the Independent livening philosophy.
— BDB is one of 25 Independent livening centers across Canada and has been accredited by independent living Canada since 2006.
— BDB provided the following programs: independent Living Skills, peer support, Information and referral, self- managed attendant care, the community companion network, accessibility consultation and disability awareness training.
— BDB is funded by: Independant livening Canada; North Simcoe muskoka local health integration network; Ministry of health and long term care ( direct funding program); County of Simcoe; Health Link; Town of Collingwood and BDB fundraising campaigns and events.
— BDB has 3 permanent full time staff and 2 part time postions.
— BDB is supported by volunteers who give their time as board members, help out with board committees, fundraising events, office work and programs. These volunteers contribute approximately 1200 hours of their time annually.
— BDB is governed by a voluntary board of directors from across the Georgian Triangle.
