Breaking Down Barriers Wraps up their 2010 Annual Campaign
The Independent Living Challenge
Breaking Down Barriers Annual Campaign “The Independent Living Challenge” launched on September 13th 2010 and wrapped up on December 3rd 2010.
The grand finale of the campaign was the Second Annual “Through Other Eyes” sensitivity training event held at the Collingwood Public Library. At this unique event, participants experienced five different disabilities including vision loss, blindness, dyslexia, communication challenges due to hearing loss and mobility challenges using a wheelchair.
Twenty three individuals participated in the event which is also a celebration of the United Nations International Day for People with Disabilities.
“We are pleased to announce that twenty three participants raised a total of $860 dollars in pledges. In addition, donors responded to letters or personal asks with donations totalling $5,750” said Andrea Abbott-Kokosin, Executive Director.
A total of $6,610.00 was raised to support our programs and services and the newly formed Consumer Contingency Fund.
Congratulations to Mari Ann Botting, our top fundraiser who brought in a total of $530.00 in pledges and donations.
We thank our event sponsors, 97.7 The Beach, Pizza Hut, Boston Pizza, mycollingwood.ca, The Connection and the Collingwood Public Library. We also thank everyone who participated, donated or pledged a participant.
